I recently went to Laughlin, NV, with my 93-year-old grandpa and his girlfriend who’s 20 years younger. (Yes, Grandpa is quite the character.)
I always have a good time with Grandpa because he is such a character (on top of everything else, he was a very successful business man so it’s always interesting to talk to him). However, it’s not always easy for me to spend time with him. Why? Because we’re moving at two different speeds.
You see, here’s the thing about people in their nineties – they move very slowly. Nothing is fast. Grandpa especially Read the rest of this entry »

Yes I did it again. Another marathon. Except this one was a half marathon in Phoenix (a mere 13.1 miles) versus the 26.2 mile jaunt I did last June in San Diego (and yes, I’m signed up to go again).
I don’t run the marathons, I walk or walk with a little running.
This time was a success because I completed it in 3 hours and 6 minutes, averaging about a 13-minute mile or so, which was my goal. (Actually, my goal was a 15-minute mile so it was better than my goal). I also considered it a success Read the rest of this entry »

Of all the things I learned in Cabo, one of the most interesting (and probably least useful) is that tequila is made from a cactus called agave. Agave apparently looks like a cross between a century plant and an aloe vera plant. My biggest regret is I didn’t actually see an agave plant growing in Cabo.
When I learned that tequila is made from agave, my first thought was “I wonder who would look at a cactus and think tequila.” Upon further reflection, I decided that was a silly question. Human nature being what it is there probably isn’t a plant, root, berry, flower, seed, stem, moss, fungus, precious metal, etc. that someone somewhere hasn’t tried making an alcoholic beverage from.
Now, according to all the nice Mexican waiters we met, if you drink Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Holidays! I hope all of you are having a fabulous holiday season.
As for me, I just returned from Cabo San Lucas Mexico. As you can imagine, December was a nutty month. Hubby and I got an opportunity to join some friends in Cabo for a week in one of their condos.
Talk about a dream. The condo had a FULL view of the ocean and at night we could leave the screen door open and listen to the waves crash against the beach. Especially for this landlocked Midwestern and now Arizona girl, that was an amazing experience. (No, Lake Michigan does NOT count for water views.) It was like a dream come true.
We had a fabulous time (maybe a little TOO fabulous
but what happens in Cabo stays in Cabo is what I say). However, trying to take off for a week in the middle of December was a bit of a challenge needless to say (especially with my business growing as fast as it is).
I’ve picked up some great article ideas and will probably get some blog entries up about my trip (although I certainly won’t be sharing all) keep an eye out.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American subscribers. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it’s all about good food (definitely one of my favorite things) family, friends and giving thanks (plus we have football thrown in for good measure, especially when it’s the Packers playing the Lions and the Packers are having a kick-butt season!). This year, hubby and I are spending the day with 93-year-old Grandpa (yep, he just turned 93 and still as healthy as a horse).
Anyway, back to what Thanksgiving is really about, which is family, friends and giving thanks (not the food, although that’s a close second). But what I especially want to talk about is giving thanks or gratitude. Gratitude is something that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough (except for this time of year) and it’s really one of our most powerful emotions because it has the capability to change your life (especially when you practice it on a daily basis). In fact, I think it’s so powerful I decided to write a short article on how you can use this practice to improve your business and your life. Enjoy!

Dear Readers,
Remember how I told you I had new photos taken of me? Well, they’re on my Web site, so make sure you check it out:
http://www.michelepw.com
I basically picked 3 to be my main photos, but I had a lot more taken (and there were a bunch more really good ones). I ended up posting all the ones I liked on MySpace page in a photo album (http://www.myspace.com/michelepw — click on the View My Photos if you want to see them all). One in particular is quite striking of me but I’m afraid it’s not, well, business enough. (I’m wearing a gold tank top.) Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think. (And if THAT doesn’t get you to my MySpace page, I don’t know what will )
Nick wasn’t happy at all during the photo shoot, so to read his take on it, take a look at his blog, http://www.michelepw.com/nblog
In the spirit of football season and Brett Favre, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers who just broke the NFL all-time touchdown record, I’ve put together an article about how football provides some valuable business-building lessons. Even if you aren’t a sports fan, I hope you’ll still enjoy it.

On Thurs, Sept 6, hubby and me and my good friend from Madison headed off to Las Vegas to see the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers play football against the University of Las Vegas-Nevada on Sept 8.
But actually the story starts several months ago, in June, when we first decided to go and started the quest for tickets. No tickets to be found on the UW Alumni site. So I checked out UNLV’s site. They had an announcement “Single tickets are not expected to be available for the Badger game.” (Keep in mind, this is BEFORE tickets even went on sale. Plus there was no link, so I couldn’t even TRY to get a ticket). Back to the UW Alumni site for more digging. Read the rest of this entry »

Dear Readers,
Wow, can you believe it? Summer is almost over. Talk about flying by. It seems like only yesterday I was walking the San Diego marathon. (Yes, I’m a bit of a nut I know. You can check out my story and photos on my blog — http://www.michelepw.com/blog ) Now Labor Day is just around the corner. Yikes!
But there is good news. Football season is almost here! Yep, I like my football. I’m a big Wisconsin fan — I watch college and pro: Go Packers and Go Wisconsin Badgers. It’s pretty much impossible to grow up in Wisconsin and not be a Wisconsin fan.
Next week hubby and I are meeting my best friend in Vegas for a Badger game. Of course, I don’t have tickets — they were sold out before University of Nevada Las Vegas even got them on their Web site. In fact, UNLV had a little note on their site BEFORE tickets went on sale that they didn’t expect any single tickets to be available for this game and if you wanted a ticket, you should buy a season ticket. I thought that was silly, but a few weeks ago I decided to take another look at those season tickets and believe it or not, THEY’RE gone too. (I told you, Wisconsin fans are rabid.) But I have faith I’ll be able to get into the game one way or another. Will keep you posted.
To Your Success!

One night, my sister and I rented A Night At the Museum, with Ben Stiller. If you’re looking for a fun, non-thinking movie, this is it.
My sister showed the kids a few highlights of the movie the next day, and as usual, it’s always a trip seeing things from a child’s perspective. They really enjoyed the T Rex skeleton galloping around the museum playing fetch and the Easter Island statue saying “I’m not the dum-dum. You’re the dum-dum. Give me gum-gum.” We got to hear that particular memorable quote a number of times that week. (Which just goes to show you, be careful what you say and show kids because you may regret it.)

I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews – ages 7. 5. 3, and 11 months. Needless to say, it was quite an experience spending a week with them. I got to listen to such conversations as:
“Why is your brother crying?” (this is my sister).
“He was pinching me.”
“So you pinched him back.”
“NO! I did NOT pinch him back. I punched him.”
Sometimes it’s all you can do to keep from laughing. (Especially when you know you really shouldn’t be laughing.)
Unfortunately Maryland was excessively hot the week I was there. It was over a hundred and humid, but little rain. (Where my sister lived they were in a drought. Everything was dry and yellow.) It was actually hotter there than where I live, in Prescott, Arizona. (I live in the mountains so it’s not nearly as hot as Phoenix. Plus it’s very dry.)
So it was tough knowing what to do with all those kids since spending time outside was physically draining. We ended up doing a lot of “indoor” stuff, like reading and playing games (and a lot of Thomas the Train). They all love books and being read to, which just warms a writers’ heart. But, when they weren’t reading, well let’s just say it had a tendency to get a bit noisy.

What would a summer vacation be without a good book?
My summer vacation, where I went out to see my sister and four nieces and nephews in Maryland, started with me reading the last Harry Potter book on the flight out there.
It was a struggle to keep from reading it until my vacation began. The book kept talking to me. “Read me,” it would say. “Don’t you want to know what happened?” “You don’t have to read much, just a couple of chapters.” Yikes. I finally gave in a few days before I left. (Better people than me may have been able to resist.) But I was very careful how much I actually allowed myself to read. I managed (barely) to save most of it for my trip.
Of course, I ended up finishing it before I even got out of the Baltimore airport (so much for lazy days reading on vacation). In fact, I was so entranced reading I nearly forgot to get off the plane. (Luckily the guy sitting next to me had a great sense of humor about it.)
Anyway, I thought J.K. Rowling did a really good job with the whole series. (Don’t worry, I won’t reveal anything if you haven’t finished it yet, but I will say I did shed a tear or two while reading…on the plane…trying to quietly find a Kleenex without drawing attention to myself.) I’m especially impressed because the series was seven books (seven LONG books). Some authors can’t complete a series of three books without losing it. But she was able to hold the story line (and the passion for the story) over seven. If you haven’t read them, I’d highly recommend them (and yes, they’re better than the movies).

I just got back from spending time with my sister and my four nieces and nephews — ages 7, 5, 3 and 11 months. Yes it was as, ah, active a visit as you might imagine. For more about my trip, make sure you check out my blog — http://www.michelepw.com/blog (Keep checking back as I’ll be adding more posts as the week goes along.)
As for me, I’m getting ready to launch a couple of big projects in another month. This summer, I got very clear about how I could truly make a difference in the lives of entrepreneurs and small business owners — much bigger than the working-with-individual-clients business model. (But don’t worry, I’m not planning to stop taking on individual clients.) I have a much bigger dream than can be accomplished using only that 1-to-1 model, and I’m finally clear on the how. (The how was where I was stuck for so long.)
I’m not ready to unveil anything quite yet, but just know it’s based on what I’ve realized is one of the biggest challenges my clients face.

I’m quite proud of myself right now. I’ve finally gotten my own social networking up and running.
(This is something for me to celebrate. You see, as a marketing strategist, I’m far more likely to focus on my clients’ marketing strategies and ignore my own.
And then it turns into a “do as I say, not as I do” situation.)
So what finally convinced me to get my act together? Well, it was several things but the most relevant (at least for this article) is I’m doing variations of this for some pretty big clients, including Alex Mandossian. (Yes, THAT Alex Mandossian. He’s pretty private about his team, but I asked him for permission to let my list know I was working with him and he said that would be fine.)
Before I start telling my clients about certain marketing strategies, I like to test out them out for myself. And, I must say, I’m pretty excited about the results. I’ve only been doing it seriously for about 2 weeks and have already seen a jump in my traffic and subscriptions.
Here are the links to the 3 social networking sites I’m focusing on right now. (And if you have a profile, or start a profile on any of these, please feel free to invite me as a friend!)
MySpace — http://www.myspace.com/michelepw
Linked In — http://www.linkedin.com/in/michelepw
Ryze – http://www.ryze.com/go/Michele243
(Note — don’t make my mistake with Ryze and open an account years ago with some goofy numbers in the name because I didn’t realize that was going to be my Ryze name for life and I was going to look ridiculous marketing it. )
So what is social networking? Well, today’s brand new article will give you the low down and some basics on getting started.

So much for those lazy days of summer. (At least in this house.)
While I do have two trips planned, I’m in a “get as much done as possible” mode. I’m finishing up a new product I’ll be launching soon (stay tuned for more details, but if you have a web site that isn’t making you money, I think you’ll find this VERY helpful). Also, I’ve got a BIG, top-secret program planned for September. If you’ve been wanting to work with me, but didn’t know if you could afford it, then this program is perfect for you.
On top of that, I’ve landed a bunch of great new clients (if I told you their names, I know you’d recognize them).
So, while I’m excited that business is booming, it’s kind of a bummer I’m not able to kick back the way I did last summer. But it’s my choice. That’s the beauty of being in business for yourself — you can choose when you want to work hard or take a break.
I hope you enjoy today’s article, which is more on the mindset for owning a business.

Well, I’m jumping on the bandwagon. I’m up on MySpace!
Actually, it’s not complete (so don’t go look at my profile quite yet!) When I was in Utah speaking last week, the 16-year-old daughter of my good friend Mary Pat Kavanagh (the director of Utah’s Shared Vision Network) helped me set up my account, add some graphics and get some music on there (the important things you know). If you can possibly find a teenager to help you, believe me it makes a HUGE difference.
My good friend Nancy Marmolejo, the Visibility Coach, has a great book on how business owners and entrepreneurs can use My Space to get leads, clients and cash! It’s a fast, easy read and I highly recommend it:

I’ll let you know when I get my MySpace ready for friends!
