Sometimes cleaning and decluttering are planned. Sometimes they’re forced on you.
Last week, I had one forced on me. (I’m starting to think the universe has decided I needed to clean up certain aspects of my life.)
It all started when the bug guy (aka exterminator) showed up. I was seeing these piles of dead little black beetles everywhere. I couldn’t figure out where they were coming from nor why they had picked the inside of my house to die in (almost like my house had become the elephant graveyard for beetles). But there they were.
The bug guy told me they were museum beetles, a form of carpenter beetle that eats what we eat — rice, pasta, flour and, in my case, dog food. Yep, that’s what these critters were doing. They had set up shop in the coat closet where I keep the dog food. In addition to the dog food, they were also munching on rawhide (that I give the dogs to chew on) and my leather softball glove.
In fact, food was SO plentiful in that closet they had grown from a mere colony to a thriving metropolis, complete with an airport and a football stadium. (Okay, I’m kidding about that, the bugs couldn’t agree on where to build the stadium.) AND they had started migrating…right into my pantry!
Needless to say, I ended up throwing an awful lot of stuff out. I found things I hadn’t touched in 10 years (when we first moved in). I decided if I haven’t needed in 10 years, it’s safe to throw out.
All in all, a productive day.
On to other matters. Make sure you check out my “Recommended Resources” where I have lots of goodies for you this week, including a free teleclass that takes place TODAY where you can hear me being grilled about my copywriting secrets.
